Title: Joey bed problem solved
Post by: craneman on December 05, 2015, 04:24:30 pm
I thought that the slide in the bay was just a slide, but they seem to be called joey beds on the forum. Whichever they are I have read a lot of horror stories on here about them sliding out and spilling contents on the road. Many of the fixes such as a bolt mechanism or pin  interested me so when I pushed the joey bed in and it did not latch I saw my problem. The latch on the joey bed did drop into the slot that Fortravel cut in the frame. After removing the plywood floor and seeing the problem, it seemed to me that the latch was stronger than any pin or bolt type latch, just not working as designed. The problem being that the latch itself may have been damaged by slamming the tray and the latch hitting the frame and bending something out of alignment. The simple fix for me was to take a rotary grinder and open the slot towards the outside. It was a very fast fix then when I pushed the tray in and saw that it stopped at the outside of the frame I knew what had caused the problem in the first place. By putting some moly lube between the back side of the latch where when it hit the frame it bound up the tray slid in easily and latched. pics showing before and after are attached.
