Title: Hosereel
Post by: mikeshort09 on December 07, 2015, 10:11:40 am
I accidentilly put to much pressure on my electric hose reel and it quit. I checked the fuses behind the bed and none were blown. Is there something else I can check. Manual retraction is a reel (sic) pain!

Sorry to hear about your problem. I replaced my reel already and maybe this helps. First, I would check the power right where it enters the reel and be sure there is 12 volts there. I do not think I remember any fuse there, only in the coach. If there is power, then the problem could be the chain that drives the unit. Naturally, you will have to remove the unit to get at the chain. If all else fails, I found camping world in a pinch was able to order and install me one. When I did install the electric cord reel, I also replaced the water hose reel too since it was easier to do all at one time and knew I started out fresh.

Mine has a small black breaker behind the panel mounted close to the switch. Looks like a small rocker switch. Too much back pressure on the reel has tripped this breaker on me a couple of times.

Do I need to remove the switch to see it?

On mine, I can just barley get to it from the hose outlet opening. If I remember correctly, it is mounted on the real itself.

Have you tried it again since it quit?
Mine did the same thing and reset itself a couple of minutes later.

To those that have the older Grand Villas, adding an electric hose and 50 amp power reel is one of the best improvements I have made to this wonderful coach. I have a very delicate back and the 50 amp cable is very heavy so one of the first things I did when I purchased the coach was have MOT, FOT was too busy, install the reels for about one coach buck. That was in 2010 and they have worked flawlessly ever since.

It sounds like a lot of money but it was very much worth it to me.

My reel has a fuse on the 12v supply line.

I did the same project and I'm glad I did. I went with a powered 50amp reel and a spring loaded water reel.
