Title: 3 switches under dash in 2004 U295 vs. 2 switches for ABS - answered
Post by: Larry Rubin on December 11, 2015, 12:04:10 pm
In my hunt for the ABS diagnostic / reset 2 switches, I found a panel that looks exactly like them but has 3 switches.    Can anyone help identify their use?  (2004 U295 - no tag)

(http://www.foreforums.com/MGalleryItem.php?id=2938" alt="")
Left to right:
-momentary 2 POSITION switch (momentary up and down with normal in center),
-on/off switch (I found it in the down position),
-momentary 1 position switch (momentary up).

The right most activates the ABS diagnostic. I don't know if the left most does an ABS reset since I don't see anything happening when I push it up or down.  And I don't know what the middle switch does.

See  ABS Troubleshooting (http://beamalarm.com/Documents/retrieving_abs_troubleshooting_codes.html)  for description of the 2 ABS switches.

The other momentary switch is used when the check engine light comes on.  You press the switch and get the last blink "code" from the check engine light blinking.  Much easier to use a vmspc for engine codes, but in a pinch could be useful.

Not sure about the on/off one, maybe its wired in to the dash alarm/beeper to turn it off?

Thanks for the help.    Middle switch is still a big question.  It doesn't do anything to the beeper.    I'll give Nac a call.

Just talked to James T.  Both left and middle switch are for engine diagnostics but really not needed since shops have the tools (like vmspc) to read if there are any stored codes.

Any details on specific functions, such as when the left switch is up something blinks somewhere and then something different happens when the left switch is down?

James didn't share any detail as to what the engine diagnostic buttons do.  He basically said that shops  now all use their computer based tools.
