Title: Front Wheel Inner Seal Leak
Post by: toyman on December 18, 2015, 11:17:11 am
Is the replacement of the inner seal on the front end anything special ? Something any truck repair can handle ?

It is sensitive to improper work. Easy to damage while manhandling the hub. But any truck shop should be experienced and capable of this. It is a relatively easy, straightforward and very common job.

Most truck repair shops should have no problem. The parts are common to the over the road trucks.

On our 97 there were two different seals available.  One rides on the hub itself and the other has a wear ring that installs on the hub instead.

You are better prepared having a hydraulic wheel cradle and try to locate a double lipped seal.
When you get it all together, use any of the better grade synthetic hub oils (not the heavy oil)
and do not over fill or over tighten the (NEW) retaining nut/hardware.
Buy/rent a "Inch lb." torque wrench and drive awhile & check your work.  pc

Get a unitized seal.
