Title: Oshkosh suspension
Post by: nitehawk on December 18, 2015, 11:06:24 am
Kind of makes me glad we have the old Oshkosh dump truck suspension on our coach. May not ride as smooth but I don't have the issues others have or the replacement costs.

Does the Oshkosh have the same Mor-Ryde as my 1981 on a Hendrickson Motor Coach Chassis? That ride is why I bought an air ride and parked the '81

Don't know what that is, but have ridden in a logging truck, a Willys Jeep, driven lots of different brands of farm tractors and equipment, along with old Jeeps and my '32 Ford with the original leaf springs. My '57 Chev convert I took two sets of leaf springs, cut off the shackle eyes on one set, threw away all the short springs, and had a fairly stiff suspension that didn't need traction bars at the dragstrip.
All I do know is that our coach has beefy leaf springs and shock absorbers. Only real softening of the ride comes from reducing the tires' PSI and loading the liquid tanks. (steering is better if the fresh water tank up front, under the dash, is 3/4 full.)

I wish it had leaf springs on the back the Mor-Ryde  has almost no dampening effect. picture below
