Title: Lowering Toilet
Post by: stump on January 09, 2016, 09:21:02 am
My toilet is too tall. 21 inches from floor to seat I want to lower it down so my feet will touch the floor when I sit there. I have a new low base Thetford toilet and it sits about the same height as the original. I would like to shorten the pedestal box 6 inches to get me down to ground level.  Has anyone done this? My bathroom flooring and toilet pedestal is stripped down to plywood now. How is the black tank pipe fixed in the tank I guess in my main concern. I can take the flange loose I would think and cut off the top of the box leaving the pipe there and then rebuild the box cut the pipe and install a new mount flange. Any thoughts appreciated?
I guess that Texan that installed mine was 6'6'' and set this thing so he could sit comfortably.

Hmmm, we had the opposite situation. Our original toilet was installed on the floor, not raised up, and it was pretty short, even for me. When it needed a new seal last fall we decided to just replace it with one that was a bit taller.

I haven't worked on my FT but all other motorhomes I have worked on have a grommet that the abs slides into at the tank

I also agree that once you have the ply top loose the box can be shortened then top replaced. The  Pipe and flange can (should) be able to be pulled up and out of rubber seal flange that is fastened to top of tank.

What about one of those "Squatty Potty's" would that work?  Amazon has son 7" and 9" high. Would save a bunch of time.

You didn't mention the squatty potty ad.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbYWhdLO43Q  Eating ice cream will never be the same after watching this.

Guess I am just too logical! Why not get a pair of very thick soled shoes and slippers--at the necessary height for each "user" of the throne? >:D  >:D
Too much time on the throne can get you a permanent ring.

Actually I really gave a good look under the riser box this morning. It is not feasable to lower the box because the plumbing offsets and there just is no room to lower. It hit me that a wooden coca cola crate would do exactly what I need it to do.I looked up the measurements and it should work perfect. And it will add a bit of nostalgia to the lavatory!

Maybe this...
Amazon.com : Cozy Greens® Child Step Stool | Stepping Stool for Children |... (http://amazon.com/Cozy-Stepping-Anti-Slip-Satisfaction-Guarantee/dp/B00UJWXOYS/ref=sr_1_4?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1452467349&sr=1-4&keywords=toilet+step+stool)

This all brings a smile to me.  So if your feet don't reach the floor then a step seems like a good idea.  Easier than lowering the toilet.👍

Stump.  OK now I get it.  I have a great RV friend in Washington named Stubby.  Tough as nails sort of guy but missed his turn at the height gene bucket.  Maybe 5'-5" in those Pee Wee Herman shoes.  His life goal is to climb to the highest point in every one of the lower 48. Finished them last summer.
