I have tried to find out how my parking brake works. Evidently it is a traditional hydraulic brake system that uses a lever to apply air to the system to act as parking brake. It is currently inoperative. Any help on how to troubleshoot this system and where to acquire parts would be greatly appreciated. It has the Oshkosh chassis if that helps.
You really need to provide some more information. Is it a Chevy or a Ford Do you have hydrovac brake system or is it a hydraulic power brake system. I don't believe that they would use air pressure to activate a parking brake. I remember a parking brake system that used an electric solenoid that you pressed on the brake pedal and turned on the switch. Maybe there was a manual version of this. As I said give more information and you might get some help
Spring operated if memory serves me. Small drum on the back of the trans. Took hydraulic pressure to release it.
I have added pictures of the switch and the hoses coming from the switch area. The hose is substantial about 1/2" in diameter. I still don't understand the parking brake system. I hope someone has experience with this and can enlighten me on this.
The emergency brake system comes on by spring pressure only. Safety feature. No hydraulic pressure the parking brake comes on.
I sold these new. Enough reserve in the system to operate it a few times. After that you have to have a functioning hydraulic system for the brakes and to release the parking brake.
Spring safety brake. In a brake drum on the end of the c6 ford trans
