Title: CAT Coolants?
Post by: Mike Leary (RIP) on January 19, 2016, 01:31:43 pm
Mine is getting low, has anything changed in what I should be adding? My files show coolant was changed in 07 + thermostat. Filter changed in 2013. Thanks, M

Mike,

Caterpillar ELC is good for 6 years doing NOTHING to it unless you drive over 300,000 miles during that time. If you do, you need to add and ELC extender at 300,00 miles.

But, it is time for a change (over 6 years).  If you go back with Cat ELC (strongly recommended) a single flush with tap water followed by a final run with distilled water is all you need.

Yes, Cat ELC is one of new-generation OAT-based coolants/maintenance-free coolants.

Thanks, Brett. I'll find the drain, but should I run the engine before the first flush & then again with the distilled water before I add the ELC ? Is it time for another filter, as long as I'm having fun?  :))
