Title: water pump or leak?
Post by: crosscountry on January 20, 2016, 11:49:47 pm

Hello, Many interesting events to read on the forum, i;m not sure this would be one of them.

The water pump, a Remco if I remember correctly is cycling for about a split second every minute or sometimes two with the pump switch in the on position. I have looked everywhere I can think of to find evidence of a leak. Turned off systems with valves provided, looked underneath for drains dripping. I have found no water.

Is it possible the pump has seen better days and water slips by the impeller signalling the pump to bring the system back up to pressure?  There are a whole lot of gadgets after the pump and adjacent to it, to which I;m not familiar with, in the plumbing line.

Thanks for your thoughts,  Tom.

The pumps can leak internally. Also depending on your plumbing system it can recirculate if a valve is not closing. I am not familiar with a Remco water pump mine have always been Sureflow. Also check the toilet.

Sounds as if two things may be wrong. First, the check valve in the pump isn't holding the pressure to the system lines. Second, because the pump only runs for less than a second, the accumulator tank (assuming you have one) is waterlogged or air has leaked out of the bladder.

Check to make sure fresh water tank "fill valve" is closing completely.  If it leaks, even slightly, your pump may run randomly.

I have a feeling it may be the water fill valve.  The water taps do allow a trickle of water when the water fill valve is set to fill the tank. Seems that happened all along without having the pump run but the leak by may be increasing.  MOT took the tank/bladder out before I purchased.  Where is the water fill valve located? My water hose intake is on a reel ,drivers side and the pump is at the back passenger side.  Thanks again.    Tom

It is behind the panel on the passenger side where the water pump is. There is more to this as it is not a manual valve.

thanks very much. I have found the valve right in front of the pump in a menagerie of right angle pex plumbing. Looks like something to look at when I get home; have not discovered any water leaking, thank goodness.    Tom
