Title: Block heater on a 6V92
Post by: 4stakes on January 30, 2016, 11:41:53 am
I recently ran the block heater on a cold morning for about 2 hrs before starting.  After starting (and turning off the block heater), I was walking around the coach while the engine warmed up and noticed water/antifreeze leaking from an area near the block heater.  It was a small puddle.
This has not happened again (but I have not used the block heater again) and the radiator fluid is at its normal level.
Is this normal when using the block heater or does this suggest a problem?

Kearn, that could be a problem,there should be no leakage from the block heater. Do have the block heater down by the ac compressor or up on the thermostat housing. Either place should you no leaks. You might try putting a wrenching the 4 Bolts and make sure they are tight.

@Kern,

Andy is right. Either location for the block heater should not leak. If it's the upper mounted heater I'd pull it and reinstall with some thread sealer. If the lower mount check the bolts for tightness.

I agree with Andy and Ken. I have never seen a leak with the bock heater. Mine is the upper thermostat location and I use the block heater frequently in the winter. I have never seen a leak related to its use.
