If there are light sources in the wheel, has anyone ever replaced them. I don't drive much at night but it seems they should glow.
Seems to be such a silly question, but while reading about switches and such it made me think of it again. :)
Thanks
Not a silly question. I have thought the same thing on the rare occasion that I drive at night. It would be a great aid to have the buttons illuminated but I do not believe that is an option.
Well, technically, it is an option, but it requires installing a new steering column, and that is incredibly pricey. :'( The original steering columns don't have the additional connections needed for the newer SmartWheels to hook up the lights.
Might not be that expensive here;

My VW has a pair of red spot lights on the bottom of the rearview mirror that illuminate the dash radio and console area at night without being obtrusive.
A red LED chart light mounted to the bottom of the drivers side overhead cabinet would provide a red spot illumination of the steering wheel, enough to see what you need to see. Cheaper than a new steering wheel.

I was actually thinking of one of those LED mini spots similar to what they put in the newer cars ( door handles, cup holders and such).
May experiment around with that a bit.
