Newbie Question: :help:
What is the acceptable range for manifold temperature on a 1999, M11, 450 hp engine?
Mike,
One of the reasons for no responses, is that unless you modify the engine, EGT's are not an issue.
Said another way, the engine "as built" can got exceed acceptable EGT's.
Hopefully, someone with the same engine will have fit a pyrometer and/or have specific info from Cummins.
If you are talking about intake manifold temp, my ism generally runs about 20 degrees above ambient. Exhaust temp runs about 8-900 f. at cruising speed, and might hit 1250 on a long climb.
Thanks for the response. I have a VMSpc which gives me intake manifold temperature and I read somewhere that IMT is important to monitor, however I have no idea what is normal.
Mike
You will find intake manifold temps will be higher when you first start driving because water temps are lower and the hyd fans are not necessary. As water temps rise to fan operation level, manifold temps will fall because charge air cooler is in line with radiator and will cool with fan operation. Might be +50 for the first couple of miles, but will drop as water temp rises. Typically, in Texas summer, if ambient temp 95 f, charge air [manifold] will be 120 to 135.
Thanks Jim, that is helpful, really appreciate the education.
