This was on the coach roof when we bought her last year, never even looked at it since we have fresh Michelin 255/80R/22.5 XRV tires all around. I've blown a spare in the AS that prolly had dried out and I'm wondering if this one is in the same condition. I'm getting tired of questions like "how do you get that off the roof", not to mention, it looks tacky. We have roadside and I check the tires often. Should I hire a couple of young strong-bodies and have them remove it, or is there any reason to keep looking like someone out of the "Grapes of Wrath" ?
If it's serviceable I would keep it. Coach-net will change out your tire or bring you a new one for which you may pay big bucks even if it's available. Punctures or damage can happen even to new tires.

Damn that logic! :) I guess the bottom line is to have a tire shop look at it. The coach has lived in AZ, so I'd think it's toast, but you're right, as much as I hate looking at it! :-\
I agree-- go up and check it for condition-- if good, leave it there (unless the looks are that critical to you). Getting a spare mounted is easy. Coming up with the right tire in the middle of no where-- not so easy.
BTW, getting it off the roof is VERY easy. Gravity does all the work. Putting it up there is another matter.
I keep one on my Roof just like yours. Never did until I had a Blow out in Ocala, FL. The Coach Net service covered Changing out a spare tire or mounting my spare (that I did not have). I had to buy a new tire at full retail, and that hurts when I like to shop for deals on major repair parts and service. I vote to keep it. ^.^d
What I learned with my blow-out, was a spare was only good enough to get to a tire store, which makes sense. ^.^d
Check the date code. It might be too elderly to risk using.
Like the rest of us. Thanks, Tom!
An old spare is better than no spare!
Gravity will do the work but make sure it gets a good push to clear the side of the coach. My luck it would either bounce into a car or roll away and down a ravine before anyone could catch it.
:)) :)) Just when I thought I'd get over it, ANOTHER CG guy asked today," how/why?" My current response is, "I tow a fork-lift".
A good response when someone ask a question like that is "Mirrors" :))
I agree as well. That is how we have ours. After we had a blow out in TN in the middle of the night we carry it everywhere. Our replacement was a $800 expense for a new tire, mounting a service call on one tire. Lesson learned.
Oh as for the lifting it up I use a rope and pull it up (no rim here) and like it was said earlier getting down is easy that's to gravity lol
Good response Mike or you could just look at them knowingly and say "Levitation". b^.^d
The Barth had a HUGE fiberglass storage box on the roof when I bought it. With a spare tire & a spare wheel in it.
Box was the first thing I got rid of.
