While trying to figure out what's causing my bedroom AC unit (zone 2) from cycling on and off every 15 to 90 seconds I wanted to see if it would act the same in the heat pump mode. When I set the thermostat with HEAT PUMP indicated on the LCD the unit does not run and after about 20 seconds under HEAT PUMP the words aux heat appears. When the temp on the thermostat is set several degrees above the ambient temp in the bedroom the fan at the floor heat register comes on in the bedroom. When temp is set below ambient temp the fan turns off. At no time does the AC unit turn on when in HEAT PUMP MODE.
I only have 30 amp service at my house so I can only run one unit at a time. The front unit (zone 1) works as intended when the thermostat is set to HEAT PUMP. The owners manual nor does Duo-Therm operating instruction say anything about zone 1 having to be on in order for zone 2 heat pump to work. Wondering if zone 1 is off does that automatically cause zone 2 to go into the furnace mode even though thermostat it is set to HEAT PUMP?
