Title: fresh water accumulator tank
Post by: lenspeiser on April 02, 2016, 07:13:45 pm
My accumulator tank has bitten the dust. After finally getting the pump/accumulator assembly free, I started looking for a replacement. The original flojet model 20799-000 was mounted horizontally next to the flojet model 4406-143 pump. I found a replacement tank, but the cost is a bit much. In looking through the archives I have seen where others have used hot water tank accumulators, but these seem to just be air tank "surge buffers" that do not have a diaphram to separate the air pressure from the the water.
I am considering getting two of the Sureflow accumulators and hooking them up in line. The Sureflows are considerably less volume than the stock flojet, so my thinking was that two would make up for the difference. Because the housing on the Shureflo is  plastic, I would not have to worry about the tank rusting out.

I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Len

I had scanned this thread and it lead me to Home Depot. When I went on Home depots website they did not state that it had a diaphragm. I will check into this again. Thanks for pointing it out. i just did not want to get an air tank that would "empty out" if the water in the system were to run out. I was thinking that might not be a problem in a sticks and bricks application to reduce water hammer effect in a water heater.
I know'd I would get some great feedback from this forum.
Thanks again,
Len

With our Shurflow 4008 water pump a single small Shurflo plastic accumulator does the job for us.  You may want to start with one small Shurflo accumulator to see how it works in your coach.

The larger the accumulator the longer you can draw water BEFORE the pump turns on and makes noises in the night. I'd go with the biggest accumulator you can fit into the pump area.

Regards,
We had a seven gallon accumulator tank in our fifth wheel, wish I had the space in our Foretravel. In the process of emptying our bays hmmmmmm who knows.

I got the 2 gal. accumulator from HD. It is going to be a tight squeeze getting it in and out, but I do think it will make for a more consistent water flow. The 2 gal. unit does not have the mounting lugs that the original does, so I will have to fabricate a strapping system and new pump mount. I will post pictures as I get further into the project.
Thanks for everyone's input.

Amazon has the Sureflo 2 gal $42 (& free Prime shipping) - integral tee and mounting feet.
Amazon.com: SHURflo 182-200 Pre-Pressurized Accumulator Tank: Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N9VF6Q)

Correction: as Brett pointed out this is a 21 oz capacity. It is not recommended for use with a 4900 or 5900 Series Smart Sensor Pump per Shureflo. It measures approx 11" x 5".

The 2 gal (13.7" x 8.4") is $44 and the 4 gal (16" x 11.5") is $61 - Water Worker HT-2B Vertical Pre-Charged Well Tank,100 Psi, 2 Gallon - Water... (https://amzn.to/43kVfbQ)

Note: The Shruflo installation document shows this as a 21 ounce capacity accumulator.

Bigger is better if it will fit.

We installed the SHURflo 182-200 Pre-Pressurized Accumulator Tank, purchased on Amazon.

We just put the tank inline on the hose, without fastening down the tank or pump.  We did mount our pump to a block of foam, but the foam is not held down.

Our coach's water pump area is a small deep space and having the ability to pull out the pump without removing any hoses helps facilitate maintenance and adjustments.

This is EXACTLY the same as the Shureflo tank. I have it installed. Pressure is set at 22 psi.
