Title: Smart wheel on the blink
Post by: Hatchet on April 03, 2016, 02:44:39 pm
I have used the search function to help my cause but I haven't found the answer.
A few weeks ago i took out my javaline control module located underneath the cup holder drawer.
Yesterday I got back on the road but none of my smart wheel functions worked.  I thought that maybe some connectors came loose while I was jockeying with the module. Today I looked at the smart wheel controller and re seated all the connections but my functions on the wheel still do not work. Does anyone have any ideas what to look for next to resolve my problems? Everything worked before.

I also checked the fuse on the control box and it was ok.
All the functions are gone on the smart wheel, no cruise, wipers.... If the ring in the column was bad would all functions be lost?

For sure that would disable the Smartwheel controls. It is a multiplexed signal meaning that it uses one wire and a ground to communicate to the control module. If that wire as a broken connection anywhere, Control module will not see any input from the wheel. This is true at least on the non-back lit models like our 99' if yours has a backlit wheel, there is at least one more wire to carry power for the backlight but I don't know anything about the way those are configured. I do know that it is a different steering column then the 99's and previous.
