Title: Do I need this fuel set up?
Post by: fouroureye on April 20, 2016, 10:08:12 am
I find myself in battery envy...

This filter takes the place of a second battery :help: ..

I realize the PO was very maticulas with the battery-solar calculations were done.. and perhas I'm sensitive sick I've been nursing a 10 yr old battery.. :headwall:

Will I really use 80 ah overnite?  40% of a 250ah agm

So you only have one AGM8D house (coach) battery?

It would help your decision-making process to do a "energy audit".

A little hard to tell from the picture, but if that is TWO fuel filters on the suction side of the lift pump, that is NOT a good idea.

Standard practice is to have the course filter/water separator on the suction side of the lift pump (on line from tank) and the fine filter on the pressure side of the lift pump.  This is even more critical on DP's than front engine vehicles because of the much longer hose run from tank.  Said another way, pumps are better at PUSHING than PULLING.

So, this is an ADDITIONAL pump-- in addition to the engine's lift pump?

Wonder what PSI it is set to?

Runs all the time? If not, how much additional restriction does the additional pump and two filters have?

Some owner-modifications are good, some, not so much.

+++1....All I can add to my friend's comment, would be to say, "If you don't have paperwork, you are in a coal mine without a flashlight."

John,

I would start out by getting any information you can on the unit.

Doesnt look like Racor to me. Looks like an older unit from AirDog® - The Original Fuel Air Separation System to Optimize Diesel Engine... (http://www.pureflowairdog.com/airdog.php)

Especially with the two visible discharge lines in the back. One to the engine, one return to tank.

From the photo it looks like an older FASS filter pump system. the new ones are made some what different. But if you want good supply of clean fuel its the way to go. I've seen them on 600+ Cummins in class 8 trucks.

Not FASS that's an old Airdog. Might give them a call they could email you a copy. I think.

If it is working and not leaking fuel out or air in, I don't see it as a "must do".

Again, I am not familiar with that filter/pump, but did not see any reason to automatically discount it.

Can you relocate it so that it is not "filter or battery"?
