Title: GV owners that have installed tile....
Post by: Jeff & Sandy on May 04, 2016, 09:42:03 am
Our coach currently has carpet in the cockpit and salon and in the bedroom. The bathroom is tiled with vinyl. The kitchen/dining area  has an awesome wood floor that we are keeping.

We looked into matching the wood floor that we have for the rest of the coach but it was 5 coach bucks. :+)

I think it would look neater to have the same material everywhere else.

Has anyone with a GV done this? I'd love to see pictures, especially of the cockpit to see how you handled the raised platform.

Thanks all.

Jeff

Most GV floor upgrade jobs I have seen (in person or in photos), they used carpet on the raised platforms under the front seats.  Carpet is a lot easier to work around the steering column, gas and brake pedals, and the pull-out drawers.  Not saying your idea could not be done - just a LOT more time and labor.

Carpet is also recommended in the bedroom, for sound/heat suppression and for foot comfort, but do what makes you happy!

Same set-up we have after a re-do, very nice!  Chuck, where did you get that plastic mat in front of the pedals?

Not plastic - it's a floor mat made of the same carpet.  Mitch (Infinity) had some carpet left after doing the front area and bedroom, so he made us two floor mats for in front of the front seats, plus a long mat that goes in front of the couch, and a rectangular mat for in front of the kitchen sink.  Helps keep the tile floor clean, and gives Bella (our Third Mate) a softer place to recline (when she's not on a lap).

When traveling, I use a black foam rubber mat in front of the driver seat.  It covers the whole floor area in front of my seat - keeps the carpet nice and clean.  I cut it to shape out of a "exercise mat" found on sale at a sporting goods store.  You can see part of it in the photo below.

Very nice, thanks, Chuck!  ^.^d

We left the carpet in on the raised portion due to the complexity of the area.  Our kitchen area was tiled by PO, so we just did vinyl in the hall, bathroom and living areas.  Wife is very pleased with it all because it is so much easier to clean.  Hope it all works out for you.  ----  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Thanks all. I decide just to re-carpet and put tile in the bathroom.
