This material has broken down and partially peeled off the inside of the door to the generator compartment. It is not the insulation inside the generator box. What is the purpose of this padding? Sound or heat insulation? It is rubbery and at most 1/4 inch thick. It has been glued on the inside of the door. Any suggestions for replacement material and is replacement even necessary?
Thanks

Bob, I replaced mine awhile back.i posted the info and pictures. Check my earlier posts. As to if you need it, probably a personal choice.
Mine sort of turned to dust. Cleaned it all out and because I could not tell any difference in sound level did not bother to replace it.
I replaced mine with EZCool automotive insulation looks good easy to work with. I couldn't tell much difference in noise level of course my old insulation jab been falling apart for awhile
Be aware that the insulation foam 'dust' will be sucked into generator air cleaner, so it is best to cover it like many have done. Lots of info and pics on Forum.
