Title: Refrigerator Fan Install
Post by: dke1955 on June 11, 2016, 11:33:16 am
I have a Dometic NDR 1492 refrig.. I recently purchased this fan for the fridge: http://rvcoolingunit.com/-Evaporator-Fan-Greater-inside-Cooling-Our-Standard-Model-wGrill-P3239956.aspx .  My reason for the purchase was I saw I could connect this fan to 12vdc, which I thought and the web site for the fan indicated would be the hot wire for the light in the fridge.  My current question is this...and yes I am NOT at all sure what I am doing here....is the hot wire for the light in the fridge 12vdc?  When I connect my voltage meter to the terminals of the light bulb in the fridge, with the meter set to 15vDC the needle goes off the chart. I of course can't go any farther with the install until I am sure if I the hot wire is 110v or 12v...sorry everyone....electrical is NOT my thing...
Thanks for any replies.
Also I could use some quidance on linking a pic to a post...but for now the link below will take you to a pic of the light switch in the fridge....thanks....

Yes, the hot wire to the light is 12 volts. That is where you attach he wire.  If the fan doesn't have a ground wire, you might need to add one. Make sure you wire to a 12v source that is on with the door closed.

Time to call Alec.  Alectrician that is.  :))  JK

I have same fans but a Dometic 1282. My light is 12v, I expect yours would be the same. Shut the 110 off fridge needs 12v even if on propane. Just be sure to hook it up the the hot side of the light. (Make sure there is power when you press the on/off light switch on the light.

David, I had the same fan in our 1492 also. The frame on the fan is your ground, the red wire to the light should be the positive,
