Title: closet door light sw.
Post by: joeszeidel on June 20, 2016, 10:59:03 am
Both of my sliding doors have plunger type light sw. One is broken does anyone know where I might find a replacement besides FOT. Sorry I didnt take a picture but it resembles the type used in older cars.

Joe,

I am pretty sure my closet lights also have an on/off switch on one end.

Hope yours does too.

Hi Joe,

You might try looking on EBay.

Joe,

You can use a proximity switch instead of a mechanical one.  If you still have the 10w bulbs you need a switch that will handle 1 amp or more.  This particular style can be wired NO or NC.

Amazon.com: Magnetic Switch: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Directed-Electronics-8601-Magnetic-Switch/dp/B0009SUF08/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1466438912&sr=1-1&keywords=proximity+switch)

Joe, my closet switches are the plunger type that turns the closet lights on/off by opening/closing the door(s).
If you go to NAPA and just ask for a switch like you have they will most likely tell you NO, they don't have it.
Tell them to look up NAPA #DJ6081  Bar code 7-07390  82520  5
Another bar code #R8868
Forgot to add--they are OEM replacement on ours--original "FOT"

Mechanical switches are almost $20.  Magnetic proximity swithes are about $6.

Thanks everyone. I purchased the one from Napa which is close to mine but not exact. Mine have a black plastic plunger which in this case broke. The new one has a metal plunger. My concern is the strength of the plunger may force the door open, we shall see. I may look and see if the old style is anywhere else in the coach and switch it out. If this switch works in your coaches it should work in mine. Thanks again. The people on this forum have saved me hours of time and money.
