Title: Step well cover timer, old thread
Post by: BamaFan on June 26, 2016, 09:50:29 am
I seem to remember a thread describing a fix similar to John Haygarth's in this thread:

Step cover (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=20369.msg148054)

but using a timer so that a separate switch would not be needed. I would like to try that, but I cannot find it now. Anyone know what I am referring to. Would appreciate any help.

Royce,  are you thinking that activating either of the step sliding cover switches would activate a timed switch to open the air solenoid to provide air to move the step one way or the other and then after a short while close the air solenoid to prevent air loss?

See this Hot Water Recirculation (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=23736.msg185394#msg185394)

I am doing the same only with water. A trigger voltage pulse sets the timer and energizes a relay to provide power to open the solenoid. The open soleniod lets cold hot water flow through the hot side of the manifold back to the fresh tank for the time you set.  When the timer goes off, the relay opens, the solenoid valve closes, water stops flowing and you have hot water at the manifold.  From there to any faucet or the shower there is only a quart or two of water in the lines so hot water quickly, not much wasted water.

It would work well with the air supply to the sliding step cover.  All the parts you need are in the referenced post.

Yes, Roger, I am thinking exactly that. Thanks for the link to your article. I don't want to have to run a wire into the coach and add another switch to solve a simple problem.

It looks like you would still have to have an actuation switch to start the timer. Lots of extra parts that really wouldn.t solve the problem any better than a solenoid.

The activation switch can be the switch to make the step cover extend or retract.  Push the step switch, solenoid opens, air is available for 30 seconds or so, solonoid closes, no air to leak.
