Title: Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher Install - SUCCESS
Post by: Siren on June 28, 2016, 06:08:30 pm
You read that correctly!!!!  This 1997 40' U320 now has a dishwasher!!!  YIPPEE!!!

Our big super secret surprise remodel project is a Fisher & Paykel Single Drawer dishwasher.  David Flanagan and his guys have never attempted to install one in a coach that was never built for one.  This was a 1st for all of them.  Hats off to Larry Ratliff!!  He is an amazing craftsman, and we are honored and super excited and proud to have his 1st dishwasher installation.  It turned out simply beautiful.    b^.^d

We purchased the Fisher & Paykel Panel Ready Single Dish Drawer Dishwasher - model no. dd24si7 - from Lowes.  It is fully integrated, meaning all the controls are on the inside of the drawer; no visible buttons on the outside.  It comes with a remote control that can be used to start, pause, or lock the dishwasher.  There are a million different ways you can load it, as all the racks are adjustable.  You can use powdered deteregent or most pods, and there is a compartment that automatically dispenses rinse aid. We have been using Cascade Complete powder, and our dishes come out spotless!

It uses very little water; we feel like we use the same, if not less water than when we took the time to handwash dishes. It is incredibly quiet, almost too quiet.  We love to hear the little series of beeps when it opens up, and when the cycle is complete.  It is so much fun to be giddy about doing the dishes!  :giggle:

I know that most people wouldn't want to give up the space for something this indulgent, but as fulltimers who cook, the hours of time we are gaining by not handwashing and drying the dishes on a daily basis is a huge upgrade in our quality of living.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Here are a few pictures of the actual install.  From my overly simplified perspective, the installation kinda went like this:

- removed the 2 existing drawers
- cut a much larger hole where the dishwasher would go
- remove cabinet doors from under the sink
- plumbing
- reinforcing surrounding wood
- shave down the existing cabinet doors under the sink
- move hinges to inside corners of cabinet doors; wood putty existing bracket holes
- cut and reinstall the slide out shelf that is under the sink to fit through the newly narrower doors
- reface the walnut to also accommodate a new drawer below the dishwasher
- install dishwasher
- sand/buff/relacquer the cabinet doors for under the sink; install
- make the drawer for under the dishwasher; install drawer
- make walnut panel front for dishwasher; install

There are a million other steps to this install, I am sure of it.  We didn't anticipate having to cut the cabinet doors and the slide out shelf under the sink, but Larry took his time to make sure it was done the right way, and to look original.  We couldn't be any happier with the way it looks.

Oh man...I clicked on the wrong post...this mom of five little boys loathes doing dishes ALL DAY LONG.  I'm gonna have to put that on my wish upon a star list :/

Beautiful job though!  What a nice addition and you can't even tell its there!

Cheryl had dishwasher on her short list when we bought the Foretravel. I installed a 2/3 sized Bosch that has worked like a charm.
I cut the 4 drawers from the kitchen counter top and relocated them to the bathroom closet. The dishwasher fit perfectly their and the plumbing was a breeze. Its a great place to store dishes also.

Yup! My wife said no dishwasher, no wife on coach, with our first Foretravel (2nd coach). We first had a counter machine hard plunbed then with our last two coaches had much less expensive CW models installed under the counter, Dave and his crew installed both of those. We had actually bought a Fischer-Paykill and had picked up at Lowes but found on closer measuring that more expensive cabinet work would be necessary. Returned it and bought the CW machine, identical to the ones we had previously and it fit under the counter. Wife very happy (not sure yet just why. I did the hand dish washing and drying anyway).

The least water consuming dish accessory long ago was the iconic Dishmaster.  They do have a newer unit than the 50's unit.

When I trashed my back last year, I could barely move. Judy took care of everything. I swore if I every got straight, I'd pay her back, big time.  Guess who does the cleaning now?  ^.^d

We had a wonderful opportunity yesterday to witness this Wonder installed in Brawley, the Bug Buster. And yes, they do enjoy a beautiful stacked W&D set that will spin you into envy, if you are prone to that sort of thing.

Great looking, very cool, custom coach! Harry is still rambling on and on regarding a "Cat Condo" he spotted in a nearby bay. What gives with that???

Fun to re-bump into a nice Forum couple again.

Nice dishwasher. Now, try to show a little enthusiasm.  ^.^d

Thank you, Paul, for those sweet comments.  We really enjoyed bumping into you and Kathleen and Harry again.  What a wonderful surprise.  And thank you for being our first guests to see the new appliances.  :)  I couldn't contain my excitement.

Harry really wanted to find those kitties that he smelled in the "Cat Condo."  That reminds me that I should do a write-up about the Cat Condo 2.0.

OK, pretty cool dishwasher too.  Now in addition to our laundry we are bringing over our dishes too.  What we really want to see is just how many dishes you use while cooking to fill up that DW (oooh,  that means Dish Washer in this context). Can't wait to see it, one month or so.  We remain, your totally manual friends, Roger and Susan.

The way I look at such manual tasks is, "goofing off, constructively."  ^.^d
