My u280 has a 10kw power tech that has developed a bit of a kind of its own. It starts and runs well on the second try and shuts off ok but now for the third time I have come back to the motor home to find the green generator light on the switch panel illuminated and the generator fuel pump is running and its logging hours. The only way I get it to shut off is to start it up and shut it down again? Anybody got a wiring diagram or a suggestion?
Does it have an auto start switch? And is it turned on?
I wasn't told it had auto start and up until now it had never done so. Also no mystery switches around
Hi Toby and others,
Are you sure the generator wasn't set to auto-start on a previous occasion and you shut it off early or tried to do so. My generator will restart by itself under those conditions.

Derek if my 2001 was doing that I would look at the latching relay inside the control box on the generator its white in color and they do funny things when they go bad. But I don't know if your setup is the same. As long as you don't auto start.
Another possible culprit is the oil pressure switch(or switches). They are often used to feed the power to hour meters on diesels. I am speaking generally; I don't know how your generator is wired. The oil pressure switch on my 6V92 stuck in the closed position and the hour meter kept running with the engine shut down. I only discovered it because it made the transmission control panel "N" button stay illuminated even with the ignition off.
Could be a malfunctioning preheat switch, where the switch does not cleanly spring return to center-off position. Pull center wire off the back of the switch to diagnose.
