Title: Engine temps
Post by: Caflashbob on July 05, 2016, 11:56:32 pm
Drove our 97 u320 up the mountains in so cal to big bear lake at Serrano campground. never ran over 207 degrees engine temp on the silverleafs coolant temp gauge. Pushed it hard up the hill. Ambient was 84 degrees. Dash gauge showed 215 or a bit more. Just posting this to show not to be overly worried about engine and trans temps up to a point

Discussions of operating conditions are often confusing.

Some post "best practices".

Others post "what I got away with".

They are NOT the same.

Each person has to determine which mentality is right for them and their needs.

Retired now but worked on mainly Caterpillar and Waukesau natural gas engines.A non-turbo engine will last 2 to 3 times
longer than a turbocharged one.You could also go longer between oil changes on the non-turbo engine.
