Title: Roof spot light
Post by: Mike Leary (RIP) on July 24, 2016, 01:43:42 pm
It is very simple to modify the aux lights to come on anytime you want them. EASY!  ^.^d

Thanks, Chuckster. I'd be on it, but today is NASCAR! I have bookmarked your post, nice.  ^.^d  Now, if I could get the roof spot back from Brett after he removed it for his big t.v., I'd be ready for I-5 around Sacramento.

Might be better to just get a new one.  Those old plastic lights with plastic gears have a limited lifespan, and it is probably pretty much worn out.  Although, our is still working (knock on wood...).

Were I to do it, I'd use a metal spot. I have very few things to rib Brett about HIS coach, we all need a nudge once in a while to keep us honest!  b^.^d

"Those old plastic lights with plastic gears have a limited lifespan, and it is probably pretty much worn out." I think that's part of the problem with ours. I'd be tempted to just remove it, but that would leave one or more holes in the roof, so I'll just leave it alone.

Now that Michelle has squared the thread away ^.^d  This deal with roof spots (which I like a lot) has been sad in that posts on this forum that have said they: A) Leak, and are removed, B) I never used them C) they are junk plastic and fail. All of the above may be true, I'll never know, in that some PO removed ours and it was (nicely) sealed when the fresh gel-coat went on. FT was not any help, as well: the toggle/on/off switches were on the upper drivers side valance where it's impossible to work it whilst driving. Picky, picky, I know, but, gee gosh!  ::)

Our original spot light still works fine.  I had to do a "tuneup" on it after we got the coach - new bulb, cleaned and greased the gears, etc.  But now it works just like new.  I like it for navigating around strange (to us) RV parks when we arrive after dark.  Also good for spotting deer (just to look at - not shoot), finding street names and numbers, and scaring off drunks.

Here's my old thread on my spotlight tuneup:
