Stupid Question #3.  How do you release the engine hatch on a 1999 u270 to close it?

On my 99 I just pulled the bottom forward and it came down.

Yes, the OE gas springs did not have a "hold open" catch/lock.

But, there are gas springs with that option-- could have been installed by a previous owner. 

So, I would look closely at the two gas springs, and if you do not see a lock, just try to pull it down.

What John said.  Don't feel badly (i.e., "Stupid Question #3). The same thing baffled me when I was doing an inspection on our coach prior to purchase.  Had to call the owner.

There is a name for the engine hatch design that someone more technical than I am can tell you.  But if you just pull the bottom out toward you, not straight down, it proceeds downward in a kind of shallow arc. 

Just be careful—it's heavy coming down.  Ease it down on the two "stops," left and right at the bottom.  Then push in the top.
