Title: Generator fuel cutoff - where is it?
Post by: AncloteJoe on August 12, 2016, 11:53:21 pm
Servicing my 8KW Powertech generator in my 98' U270. The powertech manual says to close the fuel valve before removing the fuel filter. Where is this fuel valve? Also, shouldn't the filter be filled with diesel fuel before installing it?

Thanks
Rick

Mine has no fuel valve.  I clamp off my input fuel line to prevent drain back to the tank, pre-fill filter, then crack vent on top of filter to bleed air as I restart.

On my 10K Powertech, removing the fuel filter for replacement does  not siphon off any fuel other than a tiny amount and the fuel that was in the actual filter itself.

Yes. Fill up the filter prior to installation.

Just changed filters on the gen.    It's not necessary to fill the fuel filter before installing.  Just let the pump run for a couple of cycles before starting.

Maybe Powertec wanted a fuel shut off, but the coach manufactures did not put in a fuel shut off valve. I have worked on many coaches and don't remember any of them with fuel shut offs for the generator.
