Title: King Cruise Disengage
Post by: jor on August 21, 2016, 12:32:30 pm
Issue: Must stab brake pedal hard rather than gently tap to disengage cruise. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the switch wiring from pedal to brake light. That's what triggers the cruise.

Yup, brake pedal switch (activates brakes lights as well) may be out of adjustment.

Have someone observe brake lights when you lightly tap the brakes.

Thank, guys. This is starting to make sense. I have lost power three times and I have been trying to figure out the sequence of actions preceding the loss. Anyhow, I just read in the King throttle manual that the system will limit accelerator to 1/3 if it sees the brake circuit as open. This photo shows a couple of switches and a relay in the front most left compartment. Are these the brake switches?

Light tap on pedal=no brake lights. Heavier foot=brake lights.

Another issue which I was going to post in another thread could be related. The Park Brake warning light flashes on intermittently and I can hear a small air leak in the area of the valve.

I appreciate the help. Normally, I'n in a position to do research before posting so I'm better prepared but circumstances don't allow it now.

Welcome back to the the Forum, John. Now that you've got a newer coach, interesting how the questions come up.

On back side of dash, check the air hose connections and the pressure switch for leaks.  If they are tight, try moving the air brake knob sideways in both "ON" and "OFF" positions.  If the air leak increases with knob movement, you probably need to rebuild the valve.  Simple job.

You may want to unplug the King Cruise wiring connectors and re-plug back in to clean connections.

I think King will go into limp mode if it does not see a ground potential on the hot positive wire going to the rear brake lamps.  It wants to know there is working brake light bulb.  This ground is present when brake light switch in left front bay is off.

You could also clean the two air pressure brake light switch connections.

When the joy stick was added, usually a relay is also next to the two factory air pressure switches.  Relay closes when retard is activated, also turning on brake light.  So brake light wiring is parallel across relay, air pressure switch #1 & air pressure switch #2, which means that if any of the three close, on comes brake light and King turns off.

Great tip, Chuck. Thanks. When in the off position, I pushed the handle from side to side. Lots of air leaking out.

Sent you a PM, Barry.
