Title: Amsoil bypass filtration system
Post by: Sven and Kristi on August 25, 2016, 12:42:45 pm
My coach came with the two Amsoil by pass filters mounted above my batteries.  After doing a little checking I found that even though I might be able to go 60k miles between oil changes (with oil analysis) because of 2 micron filters, the filters still need to be changed every two years.  Together, these two filters cost @ $100 and I still have to change my regular filter annually.  Since I don't drive 50,000 miles a year, I'm not sure what I am saving, except possibly my labor of having to change the oil.  The savings from not having to change the oil is off-set by the cost of the filters.  The Fleetguard  oil filter I just bought is a two stage (full flow and bypass).  Even if I am able to eliminate the small particles with the added filters, I still  have the acid build up and moisture to deal with.  I'm thinking that I would be better off putting in new oil every year.
Any thoughts before I remove this set up?
Thanks,  Sven

I sent you a PM,the oil sample will let you know about the acid, running the engine will take care of the water.

Were it mine, I would remove it.  OTR truck-- may make sense.

Motorhome with limited miles a year-- NOT.

Cummins's recommendation is to change oil and oil filter annually.  Same for fuel filters and check of coolant.

I'm starting to think, that is de rigureur for ALL coaches, no matter what engine, or what age.

Well, at least that is both Caterpillar and Cummins recommendation.

I'll take it if you pull it off.
