Title: javelina tank monitor calibration mess up
Post by: Fiddler on August 29, 2016, 09:43:46 pm
Followed the Javelina manual to calibrate the Black, Gray and Fresh water tanks.  Procedure says to empty tanks and then short pin 15 to ground to store "empty" signal.  Well I carelessly shorted pin 15 to the cigarette lighter outlet and after it sparked,  the screen read "wait" but never followed with the "done" display as it should have.

As it stands now, the "wait" remains frozen on the display with the BLACK and GRAY tanks reading empty; and the FRESH WATER  tank reading full.    The other gauges (ie PROPANE, VOLTS, COMPASS, TEMP)  which normally correctly display instantly,  instead initially show no VOLTAGE readout;  -20 TEMP (actual outside temp = 98) no PROPANE readout; COMPASS pointer seems OK; and then after ~2-3 minute wait these gauges eventually  display correct readings; but not the tanks gauges.    I tried several power up,  power down using the dash switch; shorted pin 15 to a good ground each time; also tried disconnecting power (from the step well switch) for well over a half and hour retried pin 15 with no luck.

You may try: (nothing to loose) disconnect the 12v line into the system and short it to ground to dissipate any residual voltage in the system. That may help. Like a hard reboot.
Hope it helps but power in where a ground was needed may have damaged your system.

When you say You Shorted to the Lighter outlet, do you mean the hot wire to the lighter or the casing , which would have been a ground?

Followed the Javelina manual to calibrate the Black, Gray and Fresh water tanks.  Procedure says to empty tanks and then short pin 15 to ground to store "empty" signal.

If you get it resolved and rebooted successfully, check under the center of the dash for a momentary switch instead.  FT installed one in some years (I know it's there in our 2003) to do this pin shorting more easily.  Note, this isn't the momentary switches on the left side that are used to retrieve engine codes).

I had to add the momentary short switch to mine.  FOT had just left a bare wire behind the panel in front of the passenger switch for pin 15.  U295/U320 may have it in 2002.

I don't mean to highjack this thread, but does someone have an electronic copy of this Javelina manual that I can get? Is it a PDF? Online somewhere? Thanks.

Thanks John, but Javelina no longer supports products made for Foretravel. I had tried previously.

I wonder if James Triana would have the schematics?

When I called last fall for information on the a/c controller, I talked to a man who sounded angry. Don't know if there is some bad blood between the two companies or just what the history is. He told me in no uncertain terms that Javelina no longer supported Foretravel or Foretravel owners. Today I spoke with a woman who was cordial, but no help. She said all of that old stuff had been archived.

Not sure this is the model you have, but maybe it will help.
