It's time, what filters in the pic need replacing? The one on the left has me confused. Thanks, ^.^d
Mike looks like that is your coolant filter.
Mike,
From left to right:
Water filter-- zero units SCA. If still using Caterpillar ELC coolant, it is the correct one.
Primary fuel filter (10 to 30 micron rating)
Caterpillar secondary fuel filter with manual primer pump. Suggest using only a Caterpillar filter here.
Thanks Andy and Brett, I'm still learning about this old dear. ^.^d
When I converted to ELC in my 3208TA, I was told that the filter was not needed to maintain proper coolant chemistry. Is that not correct?? Thanks and have a great day ---- Fritz
Yes and no.
Coolant filters all perform ONE function: filter coolant.
Some, repeat some, perform a second function-- they add SCA (Supplemental Coolant Additive). The filters come with "units" of SCA ranging from zero (called a "blank") to over 10 units.
With any of the new generation OAT-based coolants you use a filter blank that has no SCA.
Thanks Brett, good to know that ---- Have a great day ---- Fritz
