Title: Airbags
Post by: jor on September 15, 2016, 11:19:34 am
The air bags on our 270 are about at the end of the road. Bad photo but the outer skin is dried out and you can scratch it right off with a fingernail. The number is AY-NIT15L. What's the best/least expensive source for these? I know - I should do a search!

I bought all 8 airbags from Michigan Truck Springs they are on line. The best price and free shipping. 504-273-7292.

Keep in mind...  Air bags "can' look worse than they actually are.
Have someone without an agenda look at them to verify their condition.

I had a old Evergreen 45' trailer (reefer) with Glide Ride (air bag) suspension and was looking to replace them until I witnessed a 'Bad" air bag.  Pulled it another 4 years without issue.
I have never seen one explode and they start leaking before needing to be replaced.
Physical damage is 99.9% of the reason to get one replaced.
The rear bags trend to go away sooner than the fronts, due to heat FWIW.  pc

You need to fully raise them and check the area on the bottom normally folded in. I looked at one that was good, until raised was leaking air woth exposed cords showing. On a 1997, replacing all would be good insurance. At nearly 20 years they are probably shot and its much easier to source and install on schedule than out on the road somewhere.

Yea, I know they can look pretty bad and still maintain structural integrity. These are probably fine but the bottom part normally folded in is going. I can see the underlying belt material. I will likely replace all eight as I prefer the confidence gained (personally) with the new bags. Thanks to you both.

Irwin, I sent you a PM.
