All of a sudden the key pad fluid check no longer works (trans in N engine idling, parking brake set operating Temp, press up and down arrows at the same time). Trans works correctly, any ideas?
Bruce,
So, what does the shift pad display do when you push the up and down arrows at the same time? Does it go directly to diagnostic codes?
Brett, it doesn't do anything shows N. How having just thought about it I don't have a parking brake light on on the dash when the brake is set. Could the trans not know the brake is set (bad press sw on the park valve)?
Bruce,
The Allison shift pad should read even with engine off, as long as ignition is on (shift pad illuminated).
One of the things I check when doing an inspection. Since I do the engine AFTER the interior, I check the transmission for codes without starting the engine.
It will go into diagnostic mode with key on engine off. I don't have the book right in front of me to see what its doing as far as self check.
I could be wrong but are you pressing the up and down arrows at the same time?? That should bring either the oil level countdown or if it does not have this option then the diagnostic d1 starts.
JohnH
John, it used to do the oil check, now it does nothing.
For oil level to work on the push bottons, I THINK the trans has to be up to temperature. I recall mine being angry and not giving a reading when cold.
Correct. But, the shift pad will still display O L and then the code for transmission temperature too cold (7 0 on many). If Bruce is not getting the O L suspect that is a different issue.
Bruce,
I think you are on the right track here, and there is some connection between the two different problems.
I'm in Pacific time zone ( little early in the CG) in a Nv I'll check it out later today and pose what I find,
Ok just checked it out. Manual fluid check on the money cold, KOEO press arrows OL-70 no other codes, KOER it reads OL-70 as it should (fluid temp too cold). No other codes, I guess I'll see what happens when it warms up.
