Title: ATS switch and isolator replacement
Post by: George and Steph on October 15, 2016, 07:51:54 pm
I enjoyed a post by Chuck on replacing the ATS.  He confirmed in a PM that it was the Blue Sea 9019.  I have slowly been replacing parts on my coach with marine components and so I checked Defenders for a price.  It is Boat Show time.  Sure enough on sale  http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1%7C328%7C2290000%7C2290004&id=1329856 best price I have found for Blue Sea.

I have also seen discussion of Brett's recommendation to replace isolator with marine switch.  With Lithium house and AGM chassis I want to do this as well.  Again a marine solution but very dependable.  Has anyone done this and if so what did you go with?

The 65 amp transfer switch is for the 120 volts ac not the alternator so it should be fine.

On that Bluesea ATS, I would want to verify it is rated at 65 amps ON EACH LEG (two hot legs), not 65 amps total.  Was not clear to me on the Defender site.  But, likely the Bluesea website will say.

And, yes the Perko ON-OFF switch is for replacing the diode-based battery isolator (12 VDC).

Blue Sea tech support confirmed it is 65 Amps per leg.  Thanks Brett.

Thanks for checking and posting.

Their literature was unclear.  65 amp total vs 130 amp capacity is a big difference.
