Title: Our speed control
Post by: Dick & Sue on November 10, 2016, 08:35:51 am
On our trip south, we are having some issues.
Speed control.
At times, it would turn off and act like the retarder was applied with a noticeable speed slow down. Turn off and reset and it would work again for a while.
Other times it would work for 4 hours and then just kick out and you would have to reset the Set/Res buttons.

Granted our '89 is 10 years older, but our cruise control did almost the identical things yours is doing.
It ended up being a loose wire in the really, crappy white six pin connector up under the dash.
I removed the connector and hard wired the control box in place.
We now have complete cruise control functions (and am I ever happy!). :))  :))  :))
Try, after locating your cruise control box, checking that your connectors are all tight and totally plugged in. Especially the one that plugs into the control box. Ours resembles the multi-connector like the end of a printer cable.
All the above is, assuming (I hate to use that word) that the general system is like ours.

Thanks for the info. Took a quick look and didn't see that connector. That will be tonight's assignment.

Is it a King Control unit?

If so, separate air throttle or throttle and cruise both from King Control unit?

Make sure you have 2 throttle reurn springs in working order.

Our 99' U270 has the cruise control wired into the VIP Smartwheel master wiper controller which is on the slide out board under the lift up dog house cover to the right of the dash. Since the cruise control functions and wiper function are all controlled by a single wire  and ground, the multiplex signal is decoded in the IPX master wiper controller. You might take a look at the connectors on that board of the SM-203 (or SM-206 depending on build number).

Bret, not sure if its a King or not. Will look more when we settle in next week for a few weeks.

Don, that could make sense. When it acted up again today, the On button would turn it off and the Off button would turn it off. The Set and Res buttons would do the opposite and then it would work OK again.  Then it worked fine for another 3 hours or so.
