Title: Mike Leary's transmission questions (split from Re: Allison- filter change)
Post by: Mike Leary (RIP) on November 13, 2016, 10:51:13 am
The only reason I was thinking about this is I was told, when it (transynd) was put in, that it would need to be changed out again @ 2500 miles and then it would go 25000 miles. This stuff is too expensive and being a frugal guy  I am leaning to to just change the filter and top off.

Good point, ours was changed-over to transynd, but I'm going to check the files to see if it was ever changed-out again.  ^.^d

In looking in my files, I show: "19 qts + filters (?) Transynd, changed at 157k ,11/12/11". The lag is, I'm going to assume the PO before the PO did "the flush".  I am at 170k+ now.  Should I concern myself with dinking with it at this time?

Mike,
As far as fluid change, smell it.  No burned smell, no need to change fluid.

After 5 years and that few miles, the most I would do is a filter change and replace the Transynd lost in changing the filters-- gallon should do it.
