Title: Hella Fog Lamp replacement bulb.
Post by: John Morales on November 24, 2016, 06:11:06 pm
Does anyone know of a replacent bulb for our Fog lights.  I had a rock break the one on the driver side.  I couldn't find anything on beamalarm.com and didn't have any luck searching the forum.

Thanks, John

I've got one out, too. There have been a couple of threads about replacements, but none seem to be exact replacements. The bulbs, themselves, seem to be unobtainium. Maybe when we're in Carlsbad I can take a half a day and go visit all the auto places and see what I can find. If I leave cash, checkbook and credit cards behind I ought to be safe.

I think I found the replacement, I need to call in the morning to verify.  It looks like it's the same bulb used in a 1991 BMW M3 series.

John,

I assume you are not actually looking for a "bulb" - what you need is the glass combo lens-reflector housing, right?  The ones on our coach were Hella part number 301-126-259-00.  If you search that number on Google, you will see photos so you can compare to your lights.  The removable bulb used in that housing is a 12V 55W H3 halogen.  Sample photo of lens in ad below, plus a Hella catalog that might be of some help.

If you use the Hellas for "driving lights", that's one thing, though on most FTs, the mains have to be on, which is dumb. If you drive in fog-prone roads, you don't want the mains on. We had Hellas on a previous coach, drove through thick fog areas a lot. The  roadside lens was yellow, the curbside was white. I used the roof mount searchlight to check with up ahead. Must be no fog in Texas, as our searchlight is gone from a PO and the toggle switch is mounted out of reach of driving adjustments.

Chuck, I'd probably be money ahead replacing the whole thing. The driver's side light has not worked since we got the coach. That isn't as much of a problem as it might seem since I have driven after dark exactly once in the whole time we've had the coach. The light had water in it, and when I took it apart recently I found that the bulb (looks much like the one in the picture above) is burned out, and the interior is badly stained.

Also, the bulb itself comes out of the holder. There are two stiff leads that come out of the bulb and plug into a socket in that metal holder.

There is a post showing how to replace the Hellas with LED's.  I fitted two as direct replacements and they are wonderful
At the moment I am unable to get to the coach and find the numbers, but check in the history of the site..

I replaced our old Hella lights with LED units.  Several other members have done similar conversions.  Link to my post below:
