Title: extra wires
Post by: gracerace on December 01, 2016, 10:42:52 pm
Hi Everybody
This is Chris White. I was a foretravel tech for 3 1/2 years at the Foretravel Northwest stores. Both Coeur D Alene, and Liberty Lake.If you ever visited Liberty Lake, I was the tech in the 1st bay.
Tammy my wife and I, finally got to live my biggest dream. We have become owners of a 1997 36' U295 Foretravel. Gary Omel helped us connect with Roland and Linda Hatterle to purchase their coach, when they purchased a newer Foretravel. Roland and Linda have now become friends. We plan to visit them when we head south Jan. 1.
My wife still works for Costco, so we can only be gone 3 months each winter. We normally cruise down the California coast from Pismo south, then to Yuma and Parker for 2 months.
We are in a Jeep club in Parker with my next door neighbor here in Coeur D Alene. He owns a place in Parker AZ., where they spend about 5 months.
Anyway, the best part of owning a Forewtravel for me is, after all those years I pretty much know how to fix and find everything. But this one item escapes me. I found the extra wires under the dash to the rear. I have wired trailer brakes etc. many times in the past for customers using these wires. But I'll be darned if I can find where they come out at the back. I spent an hour in freezing cold today, opened every wire loom at the rear, but I can't seem to find the extra wires. I studied the wire diagrams, then looked on line, and it say's yes there is extra wires (I knew that), and they are under the dash (I knew that too), but it doesn't say where the come out in the back.
Does anybody know where they end up at?
Thanks a million
Chris

On my '99 I think they were in the same loom as the wires to the trailer connector. Can't readily verify that as the coach is in storage.

That is about where I found then on my 2001. They were all bundled up coming in from the left right along the horizontal frame member that the receiver is attached to.  An electronic wire tracer connects at one end and at the other the locator squeels when it gets close.  I found the back wires first and used the tracer to find the front wires.

Congrats on getting a FT.  And welcome to the Forum community.

Thanks everyone.
I am going out again today to look, it's like 20 degree's, but no snow yet. I just need one wire, to run a monitor for my new aux. brake I installed in the Jeep. I went from a Roadmaster Even Brake, to a Invisa Brake. As you know the old one had a wireless receiver, the new one is hard wired.
In the spring, I want to add a charge wire and trailer brake control for our race car trailer. The Jeep is also wired for a charge wire, but the Invisa brake charges via the tail lights when on. I have never had an issue with a dead battery, or even low battery in the Jeep. But maybe the Invisi brake takes more juice. No matter, the race car trailer has a batt. in it, so I still want that setup.
One of the reason's I wanted a Foretravel, beyond the quality I always remembered, was the fellowship I made with many customers. They were always kind, and many of them became good friends.Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Mine are right behind the hydraulic tank for fans etc, left side along with other looms.

Thanks everybody. Found them. All the hints helped. Ours is a Cat. They were down behind the hyd. pump, rolled up at the bottom by the oil pan. Never seen them there before.
Changed out the camera & monitor, so I removed the brightness control knob, going to install the LED light in there.
I was telling a fellow Ft friend locally about the extra wires. He didn't know about them. He was telling me how hard it was to run a wire from front to back for a boast gauge!
FYI. You can also go into the belly, and remove the cover for the wires. You can pick them at there too. I have used them to run a temp. sensor wire for solar panels from the engine batts, even used them for smaller solar systems to get from the start batts to below the refer cabinet, then up through the cabinet to the wall.
Cheers
