Post by: RainCatcher on December 04, 2016, 02:06:01 pm
Does anyone know what the make and model of a 1999, U320 side mirrors? I just bought two tophat add-ons and they don't fit, too small.

If they are the ones that bolt to the top of the mirror. My coach had them on when I bought the coach. I removed the drivers side since It gave me a bigger blind spot then I already had.

Dave,

Could you please explain the "snap on glass" for me? I already had the top hats on when I bought my Foretravel. On one trip, the driver's side top hat mirror started vibrating very noticeably. I pulled off the road and went to investigate what was going on. The mirror fell off *into* my hands, with no damage!

It looks like it was originally installed with some black adhesive stuff. I suspect that to reinstall it I need to get some more black adhesive stuff. Do I have to remove what I can of the existing black stuff to insure a good connection?

Obviously, I am now concerned that my passenger side top hat may decide to loosen up and travel, also. It seems prudent to remove that mirror and reinstall it as a preventive measure. What is the proper way to remove the mirror from its cozy housing?

Anybody have a similar experience? How did you fix it?

Thanks,

Trent

I have the same setup on my coach. On my way home from taking delivery the top convex mirror popped off and I lost it. James Holder at TN RV told me these are installed with either cement or velcro. I found some heavy duty Velcro and used that. It's been over a year and it is still there.

Howdy Trent,
Not really sure what the "snap on glass" means.  The p/n and description was a "cut and paste" from my sales order .pdf from 2012.  The add-ons are a great fit, and an easy install.

Trent,

"Snap on" means just what it says - you push the glass into the aluminum housing, and it "snaps" into place in the plastic bracket with a loud, very audible "CLICK".  I have the same add-on top hats as Dave.  Our glass has stayed securely in place for 2+ years, without using any kind of adhesive.  I suspect the prior owner of your coach had a problem with the glass falling out, perhaps due to improper installation technique, or maybe one of the plastic mounting tabs broke off.  They may have added the black adhesive to help secure the glass, at least on the driver side. The other side may or may not be glued in - no way to tell without pulling it out.  If it was me, I would see if the glass feels secure and doesn't have any obvious "looseness" - if so, I wouldn't mess with it and hope for the best.

But that's just me - I'm a glass-half-full positive thinker.  You should do what makes you happy.

Before you decide whether or not to take a chance with the other side, you might want to call RAMCO and see if replacement glass is available for the top hats...you know, just in case...  They could also verify how the glass is supposed to be mounted.
