Out with the brass!!! I powder coated the knobs and towel racks with oil rubbed bronze color.. very durable. Tried to paint the lamps but we will see how that goes after it hardens.
We had the floors and some carpet redone at the dealer and wanted to share.. thought it came out pretty good.
the lamp project
What did you do/or going to dowith the shower enclosure? The knobs and lamps look great 👍
That is a great question.... I cant answer yet. I am waiting to see what goes on with the lamp to see how it holds up.. If it does not. I might order some automotive paint and sand the brass at the enclosure and prime and paint it... but eventually it is gone. Ill add some pics tomorrow of the paper holder and hooks.. Helps undate the coach..
Also I didnt add what was done at the dealer was the wood floor and carpet.. came out great I think.. I am thinking of changing the back splashes also to match the inside colors
Awesome project. Lucky for me the previous owner did ours, shower included.
My compliments for a job well done.
Powder coating the shower enclosure (oil rubbed bronze) has held up well for us.
Love the floor also what did you have put down? Real Wood or a laminate?
Nice job David. We switched to brushed nickel. Sure changes to look.
Our three sided shower enclosure was replaced buy a local company using brushed nickel parts from the OEM supplied (Alumax). They reused the original glass. It was about $700 total. The door hinges on the edge rather than pivot points in about three inches. Bigger effective door opening. At that price, the few hundred dollars saved by taking the old one out disassembling it, saving the glass, getting it powder coated, getting new gaskets, reassembling it and reinstalling it without breaking the glass seemed like it was not quite worth the savings.
You should be able to paint the brass coated plastic trim rings of the ceiling lights or try any way.
It is real wood. I really like how it turned out.. Makes the Coach look new and updated (not that it had issues in that department).
$700 I think is a good price.. I have a friend that used to do shower enclosures.. might have him look at it to see what he can do with it.. If I paint with automotive paint it will cost about $350 or so plus my time.. Great Idea!!
Or do like me and wait for it to come back in style again.
Brass making a comeback in 2016 (http://www.houzz.com/discussions/3720047/brass-making-a-comeback-in-2016)
Wow! The floor looks incredible David. The powder coated trimwork really compliments it well. Beautiful job.
Here is the shower enclosure as originally installed. Current door hinge is along the edge. The pivot hinges might still be available.
Floors look great! How did they terminate the edge of the wood floor on the side where the slide is? Did they remove the slide to install the flooring? I'm looking to do the same in my 2000 U320 w/ living room slide. Thanks!
Evan
I had damaged bladders on both slides.. so they took the slides out to fix those and replace the floors at the same time. Came out beautiful to say the least!!
Talking of shower door reno's, I am in the middle of doing just that and so far have done the shower fittings and inside towel rail with the same paint I did the towel ring in previous post a few days ago. I took all the bits apart and stripped/cleaned etc then sprayed. Came out looking good. I am going to leave the shower frame till we get back from trip south. I will check with local Powder coating place for cost and possibility of doing the pieces.. If it not worth it I will take apart and paint or replace with new. I have taken these showers totally apart twice in the last coach's so not a problem. we will see and I will add pictures to this posting later of what is done so far. Not a great picture but gives the idea I guess. You can see part of door on left so gives some idea of the change from that.
JohnH
Just adding a comment that I took a picture if anyone is interested of the shower fittings I just painted as noted above.

John,
What prep are you doing (chemical and/or sanding)?
What paint are you using?
Wolfe, taking all apart then with knife blade removing as much of the brass plating as possible. Some came right back to the chrome finish base. A couple of them are Brass to begin with.
Then a good sanding/rubbing with the 3M scotch pads in medium grit. Corners/ awkward places I used metal sanding strips, then clean all parts with a Lacquer cleaner, give another quick rub over with the 3m pad then wipe clean. I am using a spray can of Dupli colour enamel in Chrome and find it almost perfectly matches the Nickle finish of the new tap I installed on the Bathroom vanity. It dries pretty quick and I gave them 2 coats. I did not get them marked up while re installing together and once on the wall of shower I wiped them over with a clean dry cloth. This took off the sheen and left it looking good. Now I do not know how long they will stay this way but as I propose to get rid of the Brass look & if I have to finish up buying them already nickle plated- no big deal and use this as a test to get used to the new look. I had the paint and time so no cost was involved. The spray head and flex tubing is new, bought in the nickle finish.
JohnH
Thanks, John.

Fortunately, we like how the brass goes with the dark wood. As far as being "dated", that seems to have started back when people were getting rid of the avocado green and harvest gold appliances, which really had to go, along with the shag carpeting and wood paneling in houses. We don't change out our kitchen every time something new comes along.
Our problem is that it is nearly impossible to replace the brass bars and faucet in the shower.
Here are some, as our S&B still has them I don't intend to change all my fixtures either.

quote"Our problem is that it is nearly impossible to replace the brass bars and faucet in the shower."
why is it impossible, you can do anything if you want to, unless you do not want to.?
We did not do it to "keep in line with others, we did it for a change for US"
If we do not like it after a while I will change again to something else. No big deal and very little cost involved.
As our friend Dave always said DWMYhappy ^.^d ^.^d
I am glad we ( figuratively speaking) got rid of the Avocado green counters etc.!!!

Ok it has been a while and some updates have been done. Here are some more pics of those changes.. it really is looking nice.. Painted the Puck light covers and added LED pucks and swapped the bulbs..

I did ours (once I removed the covers) with the textured grain finish in a mid brown.

Puck Led bulb.. and they work great
Call me old fashioned or living in the past but I like the brass accents. If the coach and I live long enough brass will be the next "in" thing and I will be peddling in style. I do however love the white quartz floor that the PO installed front to back. One of the many reasons I chose this particular coach.
DavidS, yes they are good and have been enjoying them instead of the Halogens for over 4 years now along with the change over of flourescent tube fixtures (Thinlites) into led strips.
JohnH
Updates are slow as we have not had the coach home to work on it.. changes the sconces out at Yellowstone
The entry steps look great.
More updates.. Changed the shower head and shower enclosure color to Oil Rubbed Bronze .. powder coated the frame.. took about 8hrs and it came out really nice
Very nice, David!
Some more updates.. changed the kitchen faucet ... very nice piece and cost was good also
KINGO HOME Antique Brass Stainless Steel Single Handle Oil Rubbed Bronze... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JLL4HX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
I am amazed at the flow now.. old faucet was clogged with crystals in the handle ..I wanted to change it out anyway.. this is way better.. my wife will be happy with how it works now
Changed out the old brass vanity lights.. couldnt get the oil rubbed bronze color as they only had stainless, so I painted it and made it the color I wanted so it matched everything else I have going.. wife doesnt like the led color of the light so I might change them out with a lower light output..
Came out GREAT!!!
With the LED lights on
David, these look very nice. You should try a lower Kelvin temperature LED light. Warm white is usually around 2800 degrees. Adjust light level with a dimmer.
Here is a very interesting dimmer, I have two of them. It is a touchless On/Off/Dimmer for LED lights. Just put your hand under the sensor to turn it on or off. Hold it there and the light level decreases. Perfect for the bathroom and kitchen.

And here is a multizone dimmer that you control with your iPhone or android device. I have one of these too, the dimmer. Several iOS and android devices as well.

Just what the LED user needs.
