Title: First run with lithium/solar conversion
Post by: George and Steph on January 07, 2017, 07:44:38 am
Thought I would post my first observations of our solar lithium conversion.  The following are observations not true measurements yet. Additionally I am only engaging one 200A battery for these initial observations.

We departed Hampton Roads at 8am with the goal of getting under the southern snow line by evening.  The day was overcast with almost no direct sun.  The battery was isolated from the alternator by a Perko switch at the foot of the bed.  The only charging was by the solar array.  We left with 99 and arrived with 96 at 5pm.  The heater and other background draw dropped the charge 3 per cent.

Last night we stayed in a Walmart in Walterburg SC.  At 9:30 I turned off the inverter and gen set and retired with 99% and when I was back up at 430 we were at 90%.  I then made coffee and left it on, turned on the satellite, lights, turned up the heat etc.  Trying to bring the charge down and stopped at 62%.  I then turned on the gen set at 6:20.  At 7:25 we were at 97%.  This is consistent with the literature.  The BMS kept it at bulk charge with very short absorption to float times.

I will post the install and modifications we did once we have arrived in Nacogdoches.  So far so good.

Congrats, George,

Sounds like you have the system really working well.
Hope both of you have a good trip to Nac. We are supposed
to warm up next week with nightly lows in the upper 50's.

G & S-- Nice report. Very interesting area to me.  I am trying to learn sytems faster. Can you please describe your solar lithium conversion for me? What did y'all do? Thanks. P

OKHd sure will as soon as we get to NAC on Monday night.  I want to make it detailed and can't do it right with my early to bed early to rise traveling we are doing.  Tonight Baton Rouge and tomorrow Camp FT. But thanks for asking it was a lot of work and time.
