I am ready to totally replace the back up camera on my Foretravel. I know in the past there has been many discussions on back up cameras. With how fast technology changes, I am seeking fresh opinions on what others consider is the best wired back up camera to purchase. Since there are so many members with great knowledge here, what better source to turn to before making my purchase. Thanks in advance for your input.

Are the common answers. We used Tadi Brothers. Two HD cameras the back (I can see the tow bar and the front of the Jeep with one and a long view looking back, including the whole Jeep) and one right side HD camera, 7" HD monitor with 4x split screen capability. Hard wired, not wifi. Works very well. Shipping was next day, great customer service.
Why did you choose hardwired?
Much more stable than wifi. The cameras use a very low power transmitter and receiver and the signal is easily disrupted. Running the new power and video cables was surprisingly easy. Some use existing wires but since I used two rear cameras I just ran all new cable. A little effort for the hardwired solution means less suffering later on.
Roger, I'm surprised that pulling new wires was easy. How was it done?

Me too??
In most cases, there are adapters from old wire to new cameras/monitors.
Tim at RV.cams (http://www.rvcams.com/) is an excellent information source.
If you do need to pull new wires front to back, use the ceiling/sidewall beam that runs the full length of the coach. You can look in the forward most upper cabinet on either side to see one end. Can also see it by popping out the small clear plastic "breather plugs" in any of the overhead cabinets. It is a "D" shaped beam. Have used it to run a fish from one end of the coach to the other.
Brett, would that include coaches with a living room slide on the drivers side?
Richard,
I have not tried that on a slide coach, but quite likely that upper beam is still there.
If you find out, would appreciate that info.
Yes it does. D channel runs full length of side wall. I drilled a 1-1/4" hole in the D channel on the left side of the BR rear overhead cabinet. Easier to run wires in the bottom of that cabinet space to the camera. A wire snake from back to front, attached the cables, a bit of wire pulling lube and the pulled right through. Two cables, each with power and video.
Man, I just can't wrap my mind around running a cable down the drivers side that has a slide! How would one know how much slack to leave in the cables? When I installed a new backup camera I never found a way to run the cable thru the D channel. Ended up going thru the lower cable run in the basement.
The beam is ABOVE the slide, not in it. It is at the junction of the roof and upper wall.
Here's a profile of an aluminum extrusion that joins the roof structure to the wall showing the wire run area.
Unfortunately I don't know what year or models this is used on, but it was drawn in 1993.
Morning Bret Do you know if the cross section that John posted applies to a 2000 u270 or if it has something similar. I'll be running new wires for a new camera soon.
Thanks Ric
Just want to point out that for a single camera replacement it is not necessary to run new cable. The stock cable works just fine (with an adaptor on both ends).

Sounds to me that this topic has now been taken over and more about how to run a wire. Please, why not start a new topic. Thanks
Bob
Sorry Bob for stepping on your thread. I got excited when they started talking about wire runs, as I've been debating how to make the runs for multiple cameras.
Here is the camera I bought off Ebay. A63 9" QUAD SPLIT SCREEN MONITOR REAR VIEW REVERSE BACKUP CAMERA SYSTEM FOR... (http://www.ebay.com/itm/A63-9-QUAD-SPLIT-SCREEN-MONITOR-REAR-VIEW-REVERSE-BACKUP-CAMERA-SYSTEM-FOR-RV-/222352564076?hash=item33c53edf6c)
I can't testify as to functionality yet, but it looks good in the box. ;D
I wanted a screen big enough that I could see :o
Will mount 2 rear cameras, 1 facing down to tow bar & car, 1 back view
Then 1 each side facing aft.
I opted for the extra long wire runs as my coach is 40 ft & I was thinking all of the cameras mounted on the back. Now realize I could have gone shorter for the side cameras as they'll be up forward. Have to figure out if I can cut & splice those video cables.
Hope this helps. See you down the road. 8) Ric
Don't even need adapters. Just cut the wires, soldier , or butt slice the ends you need. I have done this on several installs.
$30.00 camera $30.00 7" monitor delivered off Ebay. Took less then an hour to install all.
Installed LCD monitor over old monitor with velcro. Too lazy to remove old monitor. Looks and works awesome.
