Title: The joys of TV. $$$$$
Post by: Brad Metzger (RIP) on January 17, 2017, 06:01:18 pm
Well finally it is a done real . All TV's work as advertised . All it took was $2,100.00 and the new satellite dish Wine-o -guard  Traveler , a tech with ability and Phyllis is a happy DW . Hmm  Now I can focus on why I came here in the first place and it is not watching TV .  $1,540.0 for dish , $ 560.00 labor  . It is what it is  ;D  ;D  ;D        Brad Metzger

A couple of CBs? Big deal, as long as the DW is happy and the dog don't bite, you're styling!  ^.^d

That is expensive TV viewing Brad. Which ever programs are Phyllis' favorites, buy the entire series on DVD for her. Will take her days to go through them all.  ;D

Same equipment and costs for us. We like the ability to have music/"news"/weather when we pull over. Like home wallpaper.

I miss the days of "Distant Locals" when we could enjoy both coasts' network feeds and our (SAT) hometown stations for an added $5.00 a month on DirecTV. Pain in the neck to change service addresses with the new DirecTV Regime.

Roger,

DO you hire out!  you must be running out of things to do on your coach.......

I still have my bi-coastal feed that was "grandfathered in" from back in the day! I have suspended the Travel'rs service account on the coach, since it now has new owners. If we do decide to purchase a new and smaller rig of some sort, I can reactivate it and use it there. Alternatively, I can merge it with my home account (as per information from the nice representative at DirecTV) and just carry the receiver from home to rig.  I know that it is MUCH easier to give your "new address" to Customer Service and get the local channels than it used to be ... but that is a pain when you are moving every few days.

Glad you switched. Our Trac Star is now having issues. It's a software issue, not a hardware. Finds something (not DTV 101), looks at it a while, then moves on, never to find 101. May work one time, then it may not.
As mentioned, Trac Star is out of business. No support. Sad, it would only take a software upgrade to fix it.We have the last, and latest revision.
FWI, through all the research, and a few installer friends, it is strongly rumored,Directv is ending all SD broadcasts by the end of the year. As they turn these transponders off, or move thing around, the transponders the RV dishes look and peak to are gone.
Personally, I would not purchase any dome dishes, unless you have Dishnet. All dome dishes (Directv) only receive in SD. I would imagine the Winegaurd traveler HD, finds and  does it's final peak off HD.
Cheers

Brad.
I missed what happened to the original equipment for your  2010 Phoenix. Was it damaged or obsolete or inadequate for your needs?  Sad to me that a nice newer coach like yours would need a new one already.

What the tech said was --the little brain box stopped working --. Nothing is available , parts or service  dead end .  He said all else looks new .  Kind of thru me for a loop . Didn't expect it to crap out so soon . I would like to know when maker of this unit went out of business . Makes me wonder if Foretravel knew it and kept on installing them anyway because they  could buy them dirt cheep . Just an evil thought as I an still a bit ticked about it .      :-\    Brad Metzger

When I was at FT last September I meet a guy that had his coach in for service. He told me he was having a problem with his  TV antenna and it was now obsolete. He said FT just put a brand new one on that was twice as good as the one he did have.

Its funny how our lives change. Do some of you remember sitting by the radio and listening to music or the Lone Ranger. I enjoy my Pandora and my bose bluetooth speaker. There isnt anything on TV worth spending that kind of money. I know will disagree, I just kind of oldfashioned.

Brad I understand about UFC I have a friend who can't survive without Fox News. My needs are a glass of Johnny Walker Black on ice and listening to Frank Sinatra.

Tim ;  don't know the model name or number as it is long gone in the dumpster . It was what ever they were installing on 2010 Phenix  at that time .  " Track Star "  is all I know and can remember .        Brad Metzger

That is what we had. Worked great until it just stopped a few months ago.
