Title: Spartan collision mitigation coming as running change to the Realm
Post by: Michelle on February 01, 2017, 05:03:24 pm
Per Spartan rep in this video, the Realm is supposed to get the same collision mitigation system that the Entegra Cornerstone and Newmar King Aire have.  He states coming this spring as a mid-year/running change for the Realm.

At Quartzsite, we heard that Foretravel is using the Spartan K3-600GT chassis.  It is similar to the K3-600, except the GT has a Trussed, Torque-Box Structured Frame Design or in my terms, a normal top frame with an added bottom frame connected to top with vertical frame members.
Heard that a couple of Newmar models used to use the GT, but now uses the plain 600 along with some Enetgra models.  And that only Foretravel (& Realm FS6) are using the heavier/stronger GT chassis.
Both K3-600 chassis have Cummins ISX 15L 600 HP / Allison 4000MH, 20,000 lb independent front suspension & 20,000 lb towing capacity Looks like all air-bags are inner mounted.  I am not sure if Spartan has made any mods to their K3-600GT chassis for Foretravel.

Newmar and Entegra add their own truss system.  "STAR" for Newmar, "X-bridge" for Newmar.  It's basically the same thing, just coach-manufacturer-added versus Spartan-added.

The primary differences in these coaches going forward are the house portion, not the chassis.

This will greatly aid in be able to find good shops to do maintenance!

I really studied the pic's that were posted @ the RV show... looks like they retained the outboard 4 bag FT  system for the drive axle, and the 2 bag for the tag.... but the airbags (2) on the steer axle were inboard more or less..

In the ifs they have to be inboard on the front axle.

Newmar does there own but Entegra has another company do theirs when they get from Spartan. They said they would love to do in house but had to do something about the emissions and the government for the reason to outsource.

On the next gen IH, but not the Realm.

If you'll notice, the Realm has the Spartan passive steering tag, same as the 2017 and newer Entegra Cornerstone and all the 40 ft. and up Newmars, starting with the Dutch Star.

The next gen IH does not mention passive steer tag nor do the tag wheels look like a steer tag.  Likely those outboard rear air bags prohibit it.

IH did experiment with steerable tag in 2016 (look at some of the leftovers and used coaches on FT's sales site).  It wasn't offered in 2017.

BTW, we have driven a 2015 Cornerstone (fixed tag) and were extremely impressed with the ride and handling of the high end Spartan chassis.  Have not yet driven a Newmar or Newell but hope to soon.
