Title: foretravel service center
Post by: jelfert on February 27, 2017, 04:24:12 pm
I recently purchased a 1997 U320. It needs a few things repaired:
Tachometer - goes rom 0 to max rpm every minute or so. Screen reads "test"
Fuel gauge - when it reads  1/2, the tank is close to empty
Dash - a/c compressor clutch locked up. blend door only work is dash vent mode. defrost and floor do not work
aqua heat - burner will not light but the fan turns on

I live near Lafayette, La. What is the nearest reputable Foretravel repair center and what is the name? Is Nacogdoches, Tx the nearest to me?

Thanks

Welcome to the site.  The Stewart Warner gauges of that age are  sealed and not repairable and must be replaced.  There is also a Blue/Grey box under the dash that manages the functions of that gauge system. Some of our readers may have some as several of us have replaced the complete dash with a "glass cockpit" from Silverleaf. Fuel gauges can be the gauge or the sender??

There are no more Foretravel Centers although some of the old ones still have folks knowledgeable about them.  From where you live there is the factory at NAC and Motorhomes of Texas also in NAC plus several others in that area that specialize in various aspects of the coaches.  A search here will find them and their specialties.

It looks like your Aquahot needs a service as it has probably not been used for a while.  There are several experts on this site all around the country.  Do a search.

The A/C issue is one for one of the NAC shops. Or, Rudy as Tim says.

On my way to Lake Charles, Louisiana I stop in NAC to get serviced so it is the nearest.

Speedbird 1.

if you swing through Houston on way to NAC, Rudy Leggett is your guy for Aquahot - many places in NAC can service your aqua hot - but if it hasn't been used in a few years, I would make a detour and let Rudy work on it instead of the shops in NAC - the NAC shops are trained and have parts, Rudy is a specialist....

Tim's comments about Rudy are correct. Rudy is your 'go to' guy for AquaHot issues.

We have a 97 U320....
I had to replace my tach, it was doing the same thing.  My odometer is a little wacky too, I'm going to replace it soon.
My fuel gauge has been wonky since getting our coach.  After a couple of years and some miles, I"m a much better guess than what the gauge say.  With some experience, I can "guess" engine, generator, and aquahot use.  I'm usually within a 20 gallons at fill up.  My low fuel light will start to bleep at about 90 gallons left, at 70-80 gallons it's on steady.
There is a calibration procedure, if you seach the forums for it.

AquaHot, since it's new to you, I would make the trip through Baytown and have @Rudy look at it.  You will not find a more knowledgeable A/H tech in the Gulf Coast area.  He knows his stuff, and is honest too.  Once Rudy has it working correctly, it's pretty easy to maintain.  Full disclosure, Rudy is not just my A/H guy he is a good friend.

You can replace the tach and either learn or try the calibration on the fuel sending unit.
As far as general service, I would recommend MOT.  They have always done right by me, and after a few visits everyone knows you're name.  I, personally, highly recommend them.
