Title: Prosine 2.5 died
Post by: DavidS on March 25, 2017, 08:03:21 pm
Heard a loud pop under the coach as we sat outside enjoying our weekend getaway.. went in the coach and the inverter had faulted.. reset it and went back outside.. within 2 minutes it popped again and the magic white smoke left the unit.. burned up for sure.. what would be a good replacement that will handle lithium also?

Thanks all

We were going great until the lithium part.

Not that I have a nice 2.5 pro sine laying around or know anything but I did just empty my wallet and removed a good heart freedom 2500 and put in a magnum 2812.

A Victron would be my choice.
Victron MultiPlus 12 Volt / 3000 VA / 120 Amp Pure Sine Wave Inverter/Charger (http://baymarinesupply.com/chargers-inverters/victron/victron-multiplus-12-volt-3000-va-120-amp-pure-sine-wave-inverter-charger.html)

Would I need to change the interface if I change brands ? Correct? I like the victron brand as they seem to be an overall great company with a a great following and product.

The interface is different but then so is the interface on any newer inverter.  VIctron has some great user interfaces.

Call Alan at Bay Marine. He is a great friend of the Forum and very helpful.  Their prices are very competative as well.  See the link above.

The Victron 3000 puts out 2400 watts at 77 degrees.

The ms2812 puts out 2800 watts at the same temp.

The victron SAYS  it's 92-93 per cent effecient,  the xantrex says 88%.

Could not get a straight answer as far as where it's actually made.

China? Versus xantrex in USA?

My inverter guru can get parts for the xantrex.  No idea on the other.

My install guru had not seen one yet, barely heard of them

Victron is VERY well known (and highly regarded) in the marine world and in higher end coach upgrades.

Reading on the victron color interface panel .. will intergrate with the 702 battery monitor( I have but have not installed) and future solar charger. Looks like a great option.. the more I read on this brand the more interested I am getting.. thank you for your input . I will call bay marine on Monday

Victron if I am correct is a Dutch company with many outlets around the world. As Michelle said " well known and top rated products"
When my Lifeline batteries pack in I will replace with same size Victron and save money but have as good a product.

I did talk to Allen and he mentioned he was a distributor for the victron and its use in the marine field.

Would be unlikely to be made in Europe at that price point IMO.

Not that it makes a difference either way Except for future parts.

Bio-Benefit Energy is my inverter repair guy in Costa Mesa, ca and Eric is a pro.

Sure would give him a call first?

Anything will require service for sure.

Getting parts from Europe would be expensive I would think.

Half the reason I bought the unit we have was the for sure availability of parts and service.

My electronic guy mentioned the outback as bulletproof...

Looking back in the forum, folks have had good luck with Magnum and Victron.  At least one member found the Outback in his Phenix was not as configurable when he added solar.

Another update on Paul Smith's former coach (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=27829.msg229002#msg229002)

Also look at some of the hybrid inverters out there.  Both Magnum and Victron offer them and Technomadia has some good, albeit a few years old, info Boosted Electrons: The Victron MultiPlus Inverter | Technomadia (http://www.technomadia.com/2012/04/boosted-electrons-better-views/)

Allen was a very nice Guy and took the time to answer my questions and explain everything in detail.. Ordered

Victron MultiPlus 12 Volt / 3000 VA / 120 Amp Pure Sine Wave Inverter/Charger

Victron Color Control GX

Victron BlueSolar MPPT 100/50 Charge Controller

Should be a god start for charging, Control and solar integration

To me its a good point to keep everything in the same brand if possible and for everything to communicate well together and I believe this will be a great fit for the coach.. Solar panels are next and we will rock and roll!!

Yes, it is nice the answers and help from someone who is knowledgeable and have it explained in a courteous way.  Alan has answered many questions for me and others on Forum and will stand in for you should any problems arise. His pricing is good and I know that should my inverter and or batteries go Victron will be my choice and for Bob parts etc are available from Alan I would think.
Glad he signed on the Forum as a member as we get the benefits of his knowledge.
