I haven't found anyone with personal experience with an Atwood AC. http://www.askforatwood.com/air-conditioners/rv-air-conditioners.asp Our non-ducted Dometic is louder than we like, which might not be a problem for someone living in Barrow, Alaska. But in and around Fort Worth, we need AC. And quieter is better. These Atwood AC units are suppose to run quieter and pull less amps which is another nice feature for our 30 amp electrical system.
Hoping someone from the FT Forum might have an Atwood AC and be able to post a review.
We purchased the Atwood Air Command 13.5 without the heat pump last year. It is quieter than the Dometic we have in the bedroom, It does not however cycle off, the indoor fan runs continuously but it does change speeds as needed for cooling demand. The remote control feature is a nice plus for operation while driving.
Happy with it thus far.
Two years on our unit without incident. Unducted, w/ heat pump. I plan to replace our bathroom unit (first owners moved it forward) but we seem to use the Atwood most of the time.
Remote was a disappointment and I wish the filters were more robust. Overall, we are pleased w/ performance.
I have a brand new Atwood 15k heat pump I am hoping to install this weekend to replace my Coleman Mach A/C in my 91 I'll try and document the replacement process.
That would be first class and I look forward to your comments or review. We're leaning towards the 15 btu unit with a heat pump.
Is it true that these Atwood do NOT work with existing Dometic thermostats? And secondly, they need a 12V connection in addition to a 110V connection?
Is the indoor fan that runs continuously a quieter sound allowing normal conversation? So far, this seems to be the only negative for me and it may not be much of one.
I installed the 15000 btu air heat pump model last year. It ran all summer and fall last year. I'm very satisfied with it and will replace the bedroom unit this summer with the same model.
I bought it at RV parts country. $610.00 and only $9.50 S&H. Not sure what there price and shipping is now. Ships from Dometic.
I bought the inside ceilling assembly from Amazon.
We have two of the Attwood units, a 15k and a 13.5k and are extremely happy with them. The interior fan on the 15k unit does run anytime the unit is on, but it is not very noisy. One of the major differences between the Attwood units and others is that the Attwood units have two fan motors, not one combination fan motor. One for the interior circulating air and a separate fan for the condenser--- one of the reasons they are quieter than the others.
I did not know better until later on. One of our big ugly Coleman ACs failed, I decided to have both replaced with Dometics, took not very long to realize they were not half what the "hogs" put out. We have Carriers on board, now, big deal. the same, tho they look good with with the low profile. I miss the "hogs".
The new Atwood heat pump weighs quite a bit less than the old coleman did. It has a scroll compressor and a neat feature is a dehumidify setting where it will cycle the compressor about every 7 minutes to remove excess moisture but not long enough to drop the temperature any. pretty neat. That would be good on those real wet days where it is also a nice temp.
We have one also and can second all the above. Nice unit.

Check out the 12 volt store--several here have bought their units there at low prices and have gotten nice service.
You might want to PM me before you do that. Just sayin.
If your experience was not good, please let us know! I was under the impression they were a good, competitively priced source for these atwoods. Having this information openly available would be beneficial for all!
We had good luck with them. Even had a freight damaged unit that was sent back with no issue. Others may have had different experience, but ours was all good. I would buy from them again.
+1 Same good experience. Shipping was a little slow as mine shipped from Atwood - easy install but you need to use the Atwood thermostat. Good CS from Atwood.
Will the wall controls still run the gas furnaces with the Atwood's? Me thinks the control board is in the old acs
Just a quick 3 month additional question. Are there any Atwood AC owners in the Dallas - Fort Worth that would allow me to visit your Atwood AC unit? I'd like to listen to it since AC noise in my current Dometic is our motivation.
Can listen to ours in 78639. Replaced Coleman mach 8s. Atwood is quieter.
Me, being a frugal dumbass, saw two class Cs with the rooftop AC units on them in an auto salvage yard near here. Ended up buying the same exact Dometic Coleman AC as on the roof above our bedroom, from one unit, except newer, much quieter, and cools very well for---get this: $26.83 (tax included). Figured I wouldn't be too much out of pocket if it didn't work. Took it home and set it up on sawhorses, hooked it up to electric, turned it on and "ran it thru the gears". A-1 operated just fine!!
Initially the mgr said $150 but I said we don't know if it even runs so how about $25? He replied OK, but if yard help was necessary then $50.
I removed it from the "C", removed the bad one from our coach but used the inside controls & panel along with the heat strip because it matched the witness footprint on the ceiling vinyl. I had already bought a set of foam gaskets.
Rudy Legett in Bay Town, TX has Atwood ACs, maybe he will chime in. I know he really likes them- they are really quite.

Trackless,
Drive down to Exit 800 on I-10 near Baytown, Tx. There is a 50 amp plug waiting on you and I know where the locals go to eat. You can hear my 2+ year old Atwoods and see the new Vinyl wood plank heated floor being installed today.
Let me know if you are coming, anytime if fine -- 7 one 3 8 one 8 3234.
Oh, they are very quiet compared to the other brands.
I've bookmarked this topic and when we are near your area code, I'll drop you a note since you seem to be the nearest to us in North Fort Worth. Thanks so much for the offer.
And ditto for Ruby's offer too. If we end up near Baytown, we'll call. So thank you very much for the offer.
I replaced the old Coleman Mach in my 91 last spring with an Atwood 15k heatpump. Real quiet compared to the old one. Having the seperate fan motors for evaporator and condenser is the ticket. The inside fan can be set low and condenser fan outside can do its thing. When the bedroom unit starts giving out I'll put a,straight air unit back there when that time comes. I recommend Atwood.
