Title: New Diesel Shop in Tucson
Post by: Kent Speers on April 01, 2017, 10:41:47 am
When we were broken down in Central Missouri last summer, a Detroit mechanic there referred me to Bill Nelson in Tucson if I ever had another mechanical problem. Well this has been the year for breakdowns. My starting solenoid went out here in Tucson this winter. When I tried to start the coach I would hear a loud click in the engine compartment. After a number of tries the starter would spin as usual and the engine would start.  I called Bill Nelson and he worked me into his busy schedule. He first checked the simple stuff like electrical connections and agreed that the starting solenoid was the likely culprit. Three hours later I was driving away fully repaired

Bill is a mature gentleman, owns a 1998 Country Coach and a 2005 American Eagle. His shop is primarily a racing shop but he also works on big trucks, cars and motorhomes. Its a large shop with 7 bays and 5 mechanics. Bill personally stayed with me and the coach to oversee the mechanics analysis and checked in frequently during the installation of the solenoid. He suggested that I let them pull the entire starter, clean it and inspect the starter for a little additional labor time. Turns out the starter was in perfect condition. Total cost was $340 which I considered very fair. They work on Detroit, Cummins, and Cat engines. Overall it was a very good experience and I highly recommend their shop.

Always good to have the phone number for a good shop. I save these numbers in case I'm in area a need work done.

Thanks, Kent. Our coach is coming up for service, I hate driving in Phoenix, so a FT turn-on is always appreciated. Nice to know there are now two outlets in Tucson that have worked on FTs!  ^.^d
