I am trying to decide if I should wrap our new Aqua Hot muffler with a heat shield cloth or leave it unwrapped.
The original muffler was wrapped where it ran under the fiberglass basement, but that portion also had the greatest amount of rust and corrosion on it. The old exhaust completely rusted through just before the transition where the old wrap ended and bare tailpipe started.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Chris
Best option is to replace exaust pipe with 2 inch, no muffler. So wrap as you wish.
Based on both Foretravel tech and Aquahot tech recommendations, I used 2" stainless with no muffler. I did wrap it where it ran under the filon to protect the insulation above. The shortest run with the fewest bends is best.
Thanks for the replies.
I should clarify. The new one is all straight tailpipe. There is no muffler and/or spark arrestor.
Chris
Why no muffler?
It is not an engine, so little noise.
Original had a muffler
Not mine. Why would Foretravel put a muffler on a boiler? Maybe Rudy knows for sure.
Should have had a question mark
Many Foretravels with Aqua Hot came with a Webasto exhaust silencer and spark arrestor.
I do not hear an increase in exhaust noise without it.
Chris
Only Foretravel installed with a muffler. No other brand including Prevost converters and Newell used a muffler. Newell exhausts both Aqua Hot and generator out through the roof.
I think the USFS requires a spark arrestor?
That's my thinking.. & on the gennie as well...
